Aotearoa New Zealand’s live database for
electric vehicle charging

What is EVRoam?

EVRoam is a live data feed of Aotearoa New Zealand’s EV charging infrastructure. It collects real-time information from safe and monitored public charge points around New Zealand, and freely distributes it through various apps and websites.
Led by NZTA Waka Kotahi, EVRoam is a world-first collaboration with our energy industry that accelerates New Zealand’s transition to zero-carbon transport.

FAQs

I’ve found some errors with the EVRoam Data. What can I do?

The best way to fix errors with EVRoam is to contact the charger owner directly. EVRoam itself doesn’t do anything to change or validate the information - so we are dependent on them to give us up to date information.

I’m not a software developer, can I update my charging infrastructure without coding against the API?

Yes. While the API is powerful for updating data automatically, we have an option for bulk updating your chargers using excel spreadsheets. Check out the CPO Upload on the Live EVRoam.

I’ve uploaded my chargers but I cannot see them in EVRoam yet?

Unless you have received a notification that your upload has failed, then your chargers will have been updated. The primary place this is available is through the EVRoam API itself. It may take a few minutes or overnight for changes to be propagated across other online sources such as NZTA’s Open Data Portal or Journey Planner.

However, you can also check your chargers by clicking the Download Chargers button on the Upload Chargers.

I’ve subscribed for push notifications using the EVRoam API, but the updates are only coming through every 10 minutes?

You are correct. This was a design decision made during the initial platform development. Navigation service providers were consumed that the volume of updates could overwhelm their systems with notifications. So a decision was made to send updates in bulk every 10 minutes. This is likely to change in future updates.

Do you support the OCPI standard?

At this stage no. However, this is a heavily requested option that is high on the future product development roadmap. We hope to starting implementing this in 2024.

Can I get access to the historic EVRoam information?

No, only the current state of the charging infrastructure is available through the EVRoam API.
